Please Charlize

Please Charlize

South African-born beauty, Charlize Theron, is the latest starlet to get on the super hero movie bandwagon.

On her dramatic on screen transformations.
"Don't come to me and tell me that North Country was a transformation; it's dirt on my face. I got to a point where somebody [said] 'You love playing ugly people...' and I take such offence to that. Part of me almost wants to go, 'Y'know what, that's actually me... with no make-up, and I'm offended right now because you're basically saying I'm ugly.'"

The secret to her long term romance and love
"Here's the thing: The Beatles had it wrong about love. They did! I think if you are in a one- or two-year relationship, love is enough. You can thrive on that. [But] when you hit years three and four, you realise that if you're going to live with somebody and not just live near somebody... you have to be nurtured emotionally and spiritually, and you have to be intrigued. Because if that intrigue runs out, you're not going to want to go home."

On hearing the pitter patter of little feet

"I've been thinking about becoming a mom for a couple of years now...My biological clock is ticking, but it hasn't gone off yet."

On witnessing her mum shooting and killing her dad at age fifteen
"I guess if I didn't have this job, I'd have to go to therapy. But
I don't go to therapy - so I need this job! My father had a horrible disease. He was an alcoholic. I could have been one of those adults who go through life not taking responsibility and saying, "I didn't have a [good] example [of a father]." But I actually had the best example. I had the example of what not to do. It was up to me to choose a life and to live that life."

On refusing to get married until gay marriage is legalised
"We really do live in cavemen times. Why is gay marriage illegal? Does it matter if it is between a man and a man or a man and a woman or a black man and white woman? Does that make it less valid?"

Charlize Theron stars with Wil Smith in Hancock, out 3 July.
