If a little romance is on the cards this February, there's no better establishment than La Grillade. This charming French restaurant has been wooing customers for more than 25 years, and now is set to attract even more. Recently refurbished and launched with a lighter menu from new head chef (former Wildfire chef) Kevin Connors, each dish is a tribute to local fresh produce with seafood and premium-cut steaks featuring prominently. We couldn't resist starting with the chef's special, French spanner crab souffle, shallots, coriander, fish bechamel and bisque, $20, a hit at every table. And the lighter, but equally delicious artichoke salad, kingfish, wild strawberries, frisee and parmesan cream, $17. For the main course, we tucked into crispy skin orange and thyme spatchcock with radicchio, blue cheese and walnut, $30, and John Dee scotch fillet with, what is I'm told by my dinner date, the "creamiest mash ever made".
