Inspired by the meyhanes of Istanbul where groups of friends are drawn together to graze on delicate plates of spiced dips, marinated skewers and fine savoury pastries, Efendy is a testament to its hardworking team. The rich and diverse cultures of the Ottoman Empire are reflected not only in the food but in the upstairs meze bar, decorated with traditional artefacts. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and is popular throughout the day. Keen to try its meze creations, we stopped in for lunch and dipped into the tantalising selection on offer. The chefs are masters of texture and flavour and each dish was intense, complex and frankly amazing. An absolute must is their speciality Karides Kadayifi king prawns wrapped in shredded pastry on mild Syrian chilli muhammara, $8. But you can't go past the gozleme duck and feta wrapped in yufka pastry, $8. Divine.
