Award-winning chef Andy Ball takes bel mondo to another level.
Shhhh... I'm going to let you in on a secret. I have found an absolute gem of a restaurant. Reminiscent of a New York loft and housed atop the Argyle stores in The Rocks, Bel Mondo is hidden away on Gloucester Walk, just down the Argyle steps.
The modern open kitchen contrasts against old timber beams, exposed roof trusses and ironbark flooring, oozing character and charm. Set against the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, dining here is a unique experience for Sydneysiders and visitors alike.
And as if style and sophistication wasn't enough, award-winning chef Andy Ball has just been brought in. After winning a multitude of awards in the UK, he headed to New York to work at the three Michelin star restaurant Per Se and Daniel Boulud before landing on our shores. Ball has introduced a sophisticated and exciting menu for his first full season at Bel Mondo.

courses for $35. For entrees, we tried the special roast scallops with a confit of pork belly, tomato and eggplant relish, minted peas and almond foam, which just melted on the tongue. For main, I had slow cooked lamb shank with soft polenta and grilled eggplant, while my dining companion tried the roast breast of chicken with zucchini trifolati and sage jus, both were equally delicious.
We finished by sharing the chocolate tart with coffee ice cream and caramelised banana. If we didn't have to go back to the office, and I can tell you we really didn't want to, we would have moved to the balcony and spent our afternoon sipping on cocktails - my choice, a lychee concoction called Almost Heaven. I'm there!
