The lure of Japanese delicacies made Akaneya the catch of the day.
It's hard to know what drew me to Akaneya last week as I pondered over where to venture for lunch. It may have been the promise of tender teriyaki chicken, steamed gyoza or the lure of deliciously crispy tempura vegetables melting in my mouth but, whatever the reason, I wasn't disappointed.
Although I'm not a big fan of the raw fish movement, I must admit I rather enjoy my Japanese cuisine. After convincing my friends to join me for lunch, we wound our way around the corner from our office towards King St. Very soon we were seated at the simply decorated restaurant and waiting patiently for our chosen dishes to arrive. Our stomachs growled loudly over the bubble of chatter. This busy little eatery is a true favourite for many locals and the lively atmosphere is filled with titbits of conversation.

signature Cruise Combo, Lunch Box and, with my input, some steamed gyoza. The massive combo came with a selection of crispy tempura, spring rolls, sushi and teriyaki chicken with a side of salad and their heavenly miso soup. It was hard to decide who was going to eat what until the next dish was served. The lunch box was just as big as the cruise combo and included two extras: sashimi and grilled salmon. Don't fret if you don't eat meat or fish, the variety of vegetarian dishes will have your mouth watering and your stomach wanting more.
The best part about this dining experience was that we left there with full stomachs without having spent a fortune - and with my tempura cravings finally satisfied.
