Fast, fresh and full of energy? You will be after this lunch break.

There's something about fish and chips, the mere mention conjures images of childhood excursions to the beach where the treat at the end of the day would be deep-fried pieces of unrecognisable fish and big soggy chips soaked in vinegar. Oh happy days.

So when I stumbled across the little fish and chip takeaway on George St last week, I suddenly couldn't resist. Fish on George is a family-owned business in the recently established Suncorp Plaza food hall.

Owned by Helen and Chris Georgou who have run restaurants in and around Sydney CBD for the past 28 years, the takeaway is the result of all their hard work. The couple pride themselves on good food and service and a regularly updated menu... specials are whatever chef and partner Anthony Roditis takes a fancy to at the Fish Markets that morning.

it's this kind of experience and keen eye for quality that makes this takeaway a little bit special.

But of course these fish and chips are a far cry from the greasy, newspaper-wrapped parcels I remember; the lightly-seasoned grilled fillets and variety of crisp green salads are fresh and full of flavour - and the battered fish and crumbed calamari have a delightful twist that ensures you come back for seconds: "There's a secret to that recipe - I'm not going to tell you," says Helen.

Open every day for lunch, the wide selection of affordable dishes are available to eat in or take away. If you can't see something on the specials board I'm told you only need to ask. Just the thing to chase away the winter chills.
